Kay Panabaker, A. M. Perez de Tagle & Paul Iacono
Emmanuel Itier: Can you talk about your character?
Kay Panabaker: I love Asher. I laugh because on screen we have this really cute, sweet little romantic story, but off camera, we’re totally brother and sister… When we had our first kissing scene, Kevin [Tancharoen], the director, is like, “You two should go make out,” and we’re like, “Ha ha, yeah, okay,” and then five minutes before we started filming he’s like, “So have you guys made out yet?” We were like, “No, you were serious?” He’s like, “Yeah, get the first kiss over with.” So we literally had one of the P.A.s find us a little [area], and we had a P.A. stand watch, and for the first 30 seconds, it was the most awkward thing. I could not stop giggling. I was like, “This is the most awkward kissing situation ever.” But we did it and it was fine and cute and sweet, but…never in real life.
Teenage actress Kay Panabaker finds ‘Fame’

For Kay Panabaker’s sake, someone yell "Focus!"
The line between real life and movie fiction has been blurred of late for the 19-year-old acting veteran.
She’s part of the young 10-member ensemble cast in the 2009 remake of "Fame,” the musical drama that follows a talented group of dancers, singers, actors and artists over four years at the New York City High School of Performing Arts, where they learn how much sweat, dedication and heartbreak are involved in shooting for the stars.

It's Not Easy to Become a Star

But Actors in 'Fame' Enjoy the Hard Work
September 23rd, 2009
The new movie "Fame," which comes out Friday, takes place in a high school and features lots of catchy music and dancing by students -- a formula that has been pretty successful at the movies recently.
But unlike the "High School Musical" films, "Fame" takes a more realistic look at just how hard you have to work to become a stage or film star. It's an exciting and creative process, for sure, but the movie makes it clear that the path to fame can be full of disappointment, too.
Kay gets a makeover for Fame premiere
Posted on September 22nd, 2009 by Esmee // 1 commentsKherington Payne and Kay Panabaker Primp for Fame’s Premiere
September 18, 2009
Though Payne had yet to find a dress, she cited Megan Fox as a source of sartorial inspiration—which prompted Egashira to suggest a bold red lip and smoky eye. She began by hydrating Payne’s skin with Make Up For Ever HD Elixer, following with primer, foundation, and Temptu Retouch powder. She then created contour under the cheekbones with Guerlain bronzer in Brunette, and added color to the cheeks with Lorac blush in Exposed. For the eyes, she patted Sephora Universal Beige shadow on the browbone “to give it a polished highlight without being shimmery” and used black shadow on the lid. Finally, she lined and shaded Payne’s lips with Givenchy liner, and blended Kat Von D’s Hellbent red lipstick with a burgundy shade for depth. “I didn’t think I was a red-lip kind of girl, but I absolutely love it,” said Payne.
Cinemablend interview
Posted on September 22nd, 2009 by Esmee // 1 commentsInterview: Fame's Kay Panabaker
By Perri Nemiroff: September 21st, 2009
It’s hard to imagine actors being ‘real’ people. We know they’re real, but still have a hard time separating them from the characters they play. After chatting on the phone with Fame’s Kay Panabaker, the 19-year-old actress seemed as real as any friend I’ve had for years. Right off the bat I could tell I was talking to someone who’s goal oriented but completely down to earth.
Kay is best known for starring in the Disney Channel movies Life is Ruff with Kyle Massey and Read It and Weep with her sister, Friday the 13th’s Danielle Panabaker, but it’s time for her to grow up and break into Hollywood as a young actress. She may look much younger than she actually is, but has the aptitude and maturity of someone far beyond her years.

One more shot at Fame

September 17, 2009
Forget the leg warmers and leotards, the 1980 classic film Fame has been reinvented for a new generation.
Fame, 2009-style, takes a couple of the iconic songs and the concept of a group of young dancers, singers, actors, and artists attending the New York City High School of Performing Arts, and presents a completely new story.

September 18, 2009
Almost 20 years after the original, a new generation chases Fame.
Fame is back but the movie's makers insist it's not a remake. Just like Alan Parker's 1980 hit flick, the musical follows a group of talented teens from auditions to graduation at the New York City School of Performing Arts for actors, singers and dancers.

Fame beckons for teen star Kay Panabaker

September 13, 2009
SHE loves Baz Luhrmann films, has a degree in history from UCLA and was high school valedictorian of her class aged only 13.
Kay Panabaker is not your average teenager. Nor is she your average teen actor.
Yet that's exactly what she plays in her latest role as Jenny, a student in the most famous (albeit fictitious) high school on earth – the New York City High School of Performing Arts – in the new Fame.

Style Section LA Interview: Special Kay
Posted on September 10th, 2009 by Esmee // 1 commentsSpecial Kay
By Lizzy Epstein / Published on September 05, 2009
Hollywood starlets aren’t always known for their academic prowess. Which makes Kay Panabaker a welcome exception. The pixie-faced actress, who co-stars in director Kevin Tancharoen’s glitzy remake of the 1980 high school musical Fame (in theatres on September 25) boasts the poise, brainpower and inveterate seriousness of a young Susan Sarandon. At 19, she’s even packing a bachelor’s in history from UCLA: The diminutive Texas native earned the degree at age 17 while balancing television roles on ER, 7th Heaven and Summerland.
Exhausted from the Fame promotional swirl, Panabaker’s sweet demeanor never divined an ounce of irritation during a recent Style Section L.A. photo shoot at the Palihouse in West Hollywood — even when we asked her to don leather pants on a sweltering August day.

Kay Panabaker: Singing Her Praises
Posted on September 6th, 2009 by Esmee // 1 commentsKay Panabaker: Singing Her Praises
by Lisa Steinberg
Q. What are some of the recent projects that you've been working on?
A. Six or seven months ago I finished the film Fame and I've been doing a lot of promotion for that and just kind of watching it all come together. I did a pilot like a month after that and it didn't get picked up. This summer I did an independent film where I play a pregnant girl and that was interesting, fun, and different. There are a couple of projects that I am in the running for and am looking at doing but we'll see how the timing works out on that. Fame comes out in a month and I was just in Australia doing promotion and I am really excited for that. I spent a little over a year working on that since I was cast and it's kind of like my baby in a sense. I am really excited to see that come to fruition and see what happens with that.

Exclusive Interview: Kay Panabaker
